1. Cardiovascular system
(a) Diuretics

Reduce plasma volume and placental perfusion and should not be used to treat hypertension in pregnancy.
Thiazides

May cause neonatal thrombocytopenia
(b) Anti-arrhythmic drugs
Amiodarone

Releases iodine with possible risk of neonatal goitre. Use only if no effective alternative.
(c) Beta-adrenoceptor
blocking drugs

Neonatal hypoglycaemia and bradycardia. The risk is greater in women with severe hypertension.
(d) Antihypertensive drugs Guanethidine

Postural hypotension and reduced uteroplacental perfusion. Should not be used to treat hypertension in pregnancy.
