High-risk Factors in the Obstetric Patient
I. Demographic factors
A. Lower socio-economic status
B. Disadvantaged ethnic groups
C. Marital status : unwed mothers
D. Maternal age
1. Gravida less than 16 years of age
2 Primigravida 35 years of age or older
3. Gravida 40 years of age or more
E Maternal weight : nonpregnant weight less than 100 pounds or more than 200  pounds
F Stature : height less than 62 inches (1.57 m)
Malnutrition
H. Poor physical fitness
II. Past pregnancy history
A. Grand multiparity : 6 previous pregnancies terminating beyond 20 weeksÕ gestation
B. Antepartum bleeding after 12 weeks' gestation
C. Premature rupture of membranes, premature onset of labour, premature delivery
D. Previous surgical delivery : cesarean section or midforceps delivery
E. Prolonged labour
F. Infant with cerebral palsy, mental retardation, birth trauma, central nervous system disorder or congenital anomaly
G. Reproductive failure: infertility, repetitive abortion, fetal loss, stillbirth or neonatal death
