| Description
Zoamet
is an effective topical nasal decongestant with rapid onset
of action within a few minutes and somewhat longer duration
of action than other imidazoline derivatives. Zoamet

amines

Actions
Zoamet
nasal drops, administered directly to the swollen
membrane cause alpha-adrenergic effects resulting in mucosal
vasoconstriction. This results in shrinkage of mucosal oedema,
promotes drainage, improves ventilation and thereby remove
nasal stuffiness. This decongestant effect of topical drops
is more effective than oral agents, especially on an immediate
basis

Indications
Zoamet
is
indicated for symptomatic relief of nasal and nasopharyngeal
mucosal congestion associated with common cold, sinusitis,
allergy, acute and chronic rhinitis; also for better visualization
of nasal and nasopharyngeal areas during diagnostic manoeuvering
and to reduce nasal mucosal swelling prior to surgery.
Precautions/Contraindications

may
cause rebound congestion and drug induced rhinitis. Safe use
during pregnancy not established and in children below
6 years use of the drug should be avoided. Careful administration
is needed in patients with hypertension, cardiovascular disorders,
diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism. Contraindicated in patients
with history of hypersensitivity to sympathomimetic amines
manifested by tremor, weakness, dizziness, insomnia or arrhythmia;
also contraindicated in patients with glaucoma.
Adverse Reactions
Milder
than those produced by shorter-acting nasal decongestants.
Commonly occurring with normal use includes sneezing, dryness
of nasal mucosa, local stinging or burning sensation, palpitations.
Adverse effects on CNS or blood pressure may be seen with
overdosage, similar to those with other imidazolines.
