Actions
Keralin
formulation is based on various findings of effective
clinical results with combination of salicylic acid and benzoic
acid. Salicylic acid being actively keratolytic causes shedding
of keratin layer of the epidermis facilitating the penetration
of other medicaments into the skin and produces their action
against the skin lesion. Salicylic acid has fungicidal property
and has bacteriostatic action due to its property of interfering
with the synthesis of pantothenic acid by bacteria. Benzoic
acid, in combination with salicylic acid, is highly fungistatic
and fungicidal and also has the advantage of exfoliating the
upper layer of the skin in which the fungi are embedded. Benzoic
acid has active germicidal property and its combination with
salicylic acid help hyperemia to occur aiding in destruction
of the parasite. Hydrocortisone acetate offers effective antiinflammatory
and antiallergic properties with little side effects.
