Iodolan 1% gargle is a complex of iodine with povidone and offers germicidal activity against bacteria, virus, fungus owing to slow release of elemental iodine. It is easily miscible with water and is less-irritant, non-staining, less toxic and non-sensitising microbicidal formulation

 Iodolan gargle provides iodine in best tolerated form of Povidone-Iodine (PVP-I) and performs same microbicidal actions against bacteria, virus, fungus as iodine in tincture form without the toxicity and irritability of iodine. The formulation has broad antimicrobial spectrum and kills pathogens virtually on contact and is useful in oral/oropharyngeal inflammation/infective conditions.

Indications

Oral inflammations/infective conditions viz. gingivitis (associated with HIV positive patients), stomatitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, aphthous ulceration.

Precautions/Contraindications

Iodolan gargle should be kept out of reach of children; to be discontinued if infection persists or increases. Iodolan gargle is contraindicated in persons with hypersensitivity to iodine.

Adverse Reactions

Though severe reactions are rare with Iodolan gargle, irritation may occur on contact with mucous membrane.

Dosage & Administration

To rinse or gargle for atleast 30 seconds in undiluted form or after dilution with an equal volume of lukewarm water. To be repeated every 2-4 hours for as long as required, or as directed by the physician.
