Composition

Enidazol : Each film coated tablet contains :     
Tinidazole I.P. 300 mg
Enidazol 500 : Each film coated tablet contains :    
Tinidazole I.P.   500 mg
Enidazol 1000 : Each film coated tablet contains :     
Tinidazole I.P  1 g

Actions

 

Enidazol, Enidazol 500 & Enidazol 1000   has about four times the antiprotozoal activity of metronidazole in vivo. It is almost completely absorbed after oral administration and is widely distributed in body fluids and tissues.Enidazol,Enidazol 500 & Enidazol 1000 provides consistently higher serum levels, longer duration of activity and results in more rapid response in the management of trichomoniasis, giardiasis and amoebiasis. It is also active against major problem anaerobeÑBacteroides fragilis. It is resistant to metabolic degradation.

Indications

Enidazol, Enidazol 500 & Enidazol 1000 are indicated for the treatment of intestinal amoebiasis, hepatic amoebiasis, giardiasis , trichomoniasis, anaerobic infections and ulcerative gingivitis.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with blood dyscrasia, active organic central nervous system disease or in patients hypersensitive to tinidazole.

Adverse Reactions

Generally well-tolerated in most of the cases. Occasionally occurring side effects include

(a) gastrointestinalÑmetallic taste in the tongue, nausea, anorexia, vomiting, (b) central nervous system and neurologicalÑdizziness, vertigo, insomnia, weakness, (c) haematologicalÑleukopenia (reversible), (d) dermatologicalÑurticaria, pruritus, flushing, (e) othersÑfever, proctitis, etc.

Precautions

Mild leukopenia may occur; total and differential counts should be done before and after treatment, especially if second course is necessary. Treatment should be discontinued if neurological signs appear. Alcohol should be avoided during treatment. It should not be given to nursing mothers and in the first trimester of pregnancy

Drug Interactions

By concurrent use with warfarin, the anticoagulant effect may be significantly enhanced; with disulfiram acute psychoses and confusion may occur.

Dose

(a)  Intestinal Amoebiasis : 
Adult : 600 mg twice daily for 5-10 days or 2 g single dose for 2-3 days. Children : 50-60 mg/kg body weight/day in single dose for 3-5 days.

(b)  Amoebic Liver Abscess/Hepatic Amoebiasis : 
 
Adult : 750 mg thrice daily for 5 days or 2 g single dose for 2-3 days. Children : 50-60 mg/kg body weight/day in single dose for 5 days.

(c)  Giardiasis :
Adult : 150 mg twice daily for 7 days or 2 g single dose once only.
Children : 50 mg/kg body weight as a single dose.

(d)  Trichomoniasis 
Adult : 150 mg twice daily for 7 days, or 2 g single dose once only. Male partner should also be treated.

(e)  Ulcerative Gingivitis :
Adult :  2 g single dose for  1 day
Children : 50-60 mg/Kg body weight as a single dose.

(f)   Anaerobic Infections :
Adult : 600 mg twice daily on immediate pre-operative period or 2 g single dose 12 hours before surgery  and 600 mg twice daily for 7 days or 2 g initially then 500 mg twice daily or 1 g single dose for 5-6 days in post-operative period.
